The Children's Toy Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)3 charitable organization located in Canton, OH that brings the "bouncy, squishy, AWESOME fun" to children facing difficult situations. We fill a much-needed gap by supplying all things fun and comforting to agencies and 501(c)3 organizations across the region to help them bring smiles to children and teens facing chronic illness, terminal illness, or crisis situations.
To provide hope, comfort, fun, and smiles into difficult situations—one kid, one toy, and one community partnership at a time.
To make the world a more fun and brighter place for all children, families, and communities no matter what difficult situation they face.
We are run by a five-member board of community members and retain corporate counsel out of Columbus, OH.
We are a group of authentic individuals that believe no kid should feel alone when facing a chronic illness, terminal illness, or crisis situation. We believe that something as small as a toy or stuffed animal can provide hope, security, laughter, and a distraction for not only a kid, but the staff, caregivers, and family as well. We genuinely want to help which drives what we do and how we do it.
We go beyond "just another toy" by working with others to make a lasting impact. We value working with others within the community to help inspire change and show that one small act of kindness can make a large difference in the life of another.
Families are more than just those we are born into. We believe that no one should live or do life alone but should feel loved, connected to, and supported by others. As an organization, we prioritize creating time and space to continually nourish relationships. We not only provide organizations we support toys or activities for families to facilitate together time, but we intentionally create space in our own calendar so that families can spend time with each other.
Toys provide a way to bring hope and laughter to children in the darkest of moments. We do our best to make sure that the items we donate are of the highest quality and from trusted brands that last / do not break after the first day.
Laughter is a powerful tool that can bring healing and hope into any moment. We truly believe life is better when you are laughing!
The organization was founded in 1990 by a group of mothers who had chronically ill children. They witnessed first hand the sights and sounds of a children’s hospital on a daily basis. They noticed incredible staff members making the best with what they had at the time (Pinkie the Puppet and coloring books) to entertain children throughout the hospital.
These mothers were Cathi Bogavich and Kimberly Samuels. Cathi’s own children were chronically ill causing multiple hospital visits and Kimberly’s son, Colin, was diagnosed with pleuropulmonary bastoma at the age of 2.5 (he ultimately would pass away at the age of 5). All of the experiences during that time encouraged these women to want to brighten the days of local hospitalized children by making the hospital as fun as going to an arcade. The original mission was for each and every kid to be able to be just a kid regardless what they faced.
The organization, originally known as The Colin Morey Children’s Toy Fund, sent gameboys, movies, cartoons, crafts, activites, clowns, and entertainers to fill Akron Children’s Hospital’s hallways. The funds were raised entirely by door to door fundraising, local donors and through a canister that was in a local mini mart. Cathi Bogavich became the main figurehead of the organization that helped to set the direction. Her passion was for bringing smiles to local hospitalized kids right in our own community.
The organization was incorporated in 1992 and became “The Children’s Toy Fund, Inc.”
First Major Accomplishment: We developed a relationship with Nintendo of America to bring costs down to enable a fundraising effort to ultimately equip Akron Children's with some of the very first Nintendo systems!
Over time, our fundraising efforts grew into starting a state licensed bingo game. Our very first bingo session was on Wednesday, February 22, 1995. This shift in how we fundraised would be all the difference in the organization which enabled us to further our reach while providing a fun social game for the community with a chance for the participants to win a little money.
We began renting "Ken Mar Hall" or the "Old Swiss Club" in 1995. We later purchased that same facility on September 21, 1999 at auction and renamed it to "CTF Party Center."
Today, we hold one of the largest bingo games in Stark County. We are proud to create a social gathering in the community while connecting to bring awareness and further our cause.
Want to play bingo and support children facing difficult situations? We are open every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 4:30 PM.
We began to see an immense need in organizations outside of the hospital setting and expanded our articles and operations to include foster care organizations and other supporting organizations. In 2023, we sent out over 15,000 toys to 4 Foster Care Agencies, 5 Hospitals, 1 Domestic Violence Shelter, and 2 Wish Organizations across Northeast Ohio.
We view every organization we support as a partner. Our goal is to engage each and every one in the way that is truly going to make a difference in the lives of the children and teenagers they service. We work to continually refine what we do to help every organization in the way that they need it most. We welcome feedback from all of our contacts on what is working with their population and what is not.

It became a dream to involve local youth in what we were already doing to show them that with a little bit of time they can be the difference in the life of another. With that in mind, we began exploring service-related projects in late 2018 and have continued to grow those opportunities since.
Our first service project was with a local Jackson Fury soccer team making blankets. From there it expanded to larger scale events with CAST and RiverTree Jackson Student Ministry. These unique partnerships have allowed us to go further than providing just another toy to the bin to creating a bundle filled with hope for children who truly need that extra boost.
Over time, our blanket bundle project evolved to be specifically for foster care. The idea was that a stuffed animal and fidget toy wrapped in a cuddly blanket would be waiting for a child entering foster care on the first night of care to help ease fear and uncertainty from any abrupt life changes they may have encountered.
Years after one of our larger service projects alongside RiverTree Jackson Student Ministry, a senior reached out to us sharing that the experience with us and her youth group had impacted her. She wanted to do her Senior Service Project alongside of us. She showed us that the projects were having an impact onthe groups participating in the way we had dreamed.
We work with organizations, businesses, clubs, activity groups, and high school seniors. Find out more or Contact us today to start the conversation.
When we expanded to include additional agencies, we began dreaming of ways to include the youth at those agencies in what we do. This dream was realized in 2023 with the pilot of the Be a Friend Program. We collaborated with our friends at the Hall of Fame Village Build-A-Bear to create a day just for the kids. We invited Pathway Caring for Children to bring youth to participate in the day by building a friend for all of their own adventures to come and making a friend to be a friend to a child or teen at Akron Children's Hospital.
As we begin 2024, we are in process of scaling and growing the Be a Friend Program. It is our belief that this event can impact a generation of children. This program can do so much more than provide just another toy to the bin. It shows these kids that they are seen, they matter, and they can help make a difference in the life of another.
We absolutely love to collaborate with local businesses, organizations, etc to do truly incredible and life changing acts for children facing difficulties. It is our belief that we can do so much more together than alone.
